Hello and Welcome To Do Not Pet
The name of our blog is somewhat tongue in cheek, since most of the photos that will be published are of people petting Gabe. This blog came about as a suggestion from a very nice man that we met at the Niche Mommy Conference, in New Orleans back in August of 2012. He said (as he was down on the floor rubbing Gabe's belly) that Gabe and I should have a blog called Do Not Pet.
As a general rule, one should never pet a Service Dog while he or she is working. You shouldn't even ask to pet a Service Dog, unless you see a patch on their vest that says "Ask to Pet".
I will go into more on Service Dog etiquette in post's to come. but I wanted to make sure that I covered that very important point, before I went any further.
I do not mind having people pet Gabe, as long as I am in the mood, and they ask first. Gabe in a multi tasking Service Dog. I use him for mobility.balance assistance, for medic alert situations (I have food allergies), and as a PSD - Psychological Service Dog. I have times when I become disoriented, and I have agoraphobia. Gabe helps me to navigate the world outside of my home. I'll fill you in on all of this too, as time goes by.
We look forward to sharing our life with you, and hope that you enjoy visiting.
Please Excuse Our Dust, as our blog is being designed.
